The Visit: Where Every Journey Begins

Before a family enters any sacramental preparation program at Saint Cecilia, we sit down together first.

We call it the Visit — a simple, unhurried conversation, usually about 20 to 30 minutes. There's no paperwork, no checklist, no quiz. Just a chance for us to get to know your family: where you are, what life looks like right now, what you're hoping for, and what you might be carrying.

It's the same instinct Jesus had on the road to Emmaus. He didn't open with a lesson. He asked, What's been going on? He walked with people before he led them anywhere. That's what we're trying to do.

Whether you're preparing for Marriage, Baptism, First Sacraments, or Confirmation, this is where we begin — not with a program, but with a conversation.

St. Cecilia Catholic Church Baptism

Baptism

Baptism is the Church's first embrace of a child too young to ask for grace, yet not too young to receive it — a quiet miracle in which original sin is washed away and the soul is filled, for the first time, with the very life of God. In the pouring of water and the anointing with sacred oil, the child is claimed as beloved, grafted into the Body of Christ, and welcomed into a family far larger than the one gathered at the font: the communion of saints stretching back two thousand years. Parents and godparents stand as guardians of a flame they did not light themselves, promising to nurture in this small, sleeping person a faith that will one day be entirely their own. It is a sacrament of pure gift — grace arriving before merit, love before understanding — echoing the truth at the heart of the Gospel: that we are not saved by what we have done, but by what has been done for us.

To schedule an initial interview and reserve a date for your child's baptism,

Eucharist

Your child's First Eucharist is more than a checklist — it's an invitation into the heart of the Mass, where your whole family encounters Jesus together. Through our First Sacrament Pathways, you'll walk this journey side by side with your child: some sessions at home, some together here at the parish, with simple, hands-on ways to talk about faith along the way.

Reconciliation

The sacrament of reconciliation and penance, often referred to confession, is the sacrament of God’s forgiveness and has three elements:

Confession: Verbally telling your sins to a priest with true sorrow and sincerely intending not to sin again.

Absolution: The prayer of forgiveness which the priest prays over the penitent to absolve their sins and let them be reconciled with God.

Penance: Prayer(s) or task given by the priest to the penitent in order to help them amend their life and not sin again.

Confirmation

Before your family receives the gifts of the Holy Spirit, we begin with the story that makes sense of everything else: the Good News of who Jesus is, what He did, and why it matters for your family today. From there, Confirmation preparation unfolds — hands-on, home-and-parish sessions that lead your candidate (and you) into a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit and a life of discipleship.

Marriage

Marriage is a permanent partnership of love and life between a man and a woman in which "the two become one flesh.” God established marriage as the way of giving and receiving love and continuing the human race.

Anointing of the Sick

A time of sickness can be an opportunity for Catholics to recall God's presence and to celebrate God's healing in their lives. This sacrament reminds us of our need for spiritual and physical healing.

"By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them.  And indeed she exhorts them to contribute to the good of the People of God by freely uniting themselves to the Passion and death of Christ."

~Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1499

Holy Orders

All members of the Church participate in the priesthood of all believers through baptism. However, some men are called to serve Jesus and the Church today through the celebration of the sacrament of holy orders. Through their leadership in the Church, they help continue Jesus’ presence on earth in the apostolic ministry.
