Reading

Isaiah 5:1-7
Let me now sing of my friend, my friend's song concerning his vineyard. My friend had a vineyard on a fertile hillside; he spaded it, cleared it of stones, and planted the choicest vines; within it he built a watchtower, and hewed out a wine press. Then he looked for the crop of grapes, but what it yielded was wild grapes. Now, inhabitants of Jerusalem and people of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard: What more was there to do for my vineyard that I had not done? Why, when I looked for the crop of grapes, did it bring forth wild grapes? Now, I will let you know what I mean to do with my vineyard: take away its hedge, give it to grazing, break through its wall, let it be trampled! Yes, I will make it a ruin: it shall not be pruned or hoed, but overgrown with thorns and briers; I will command the clouds not to send rain upon it. The vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the people of Judah are his cherished plant; he looked for judgment, but see, bloodshed! for justice, but hark, the outcry!

Gospel

Matthew 21:33-43
Jesus said to the chief priests and the elders of the people: "Hear another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it, dug a wine press in it, and built a tower. Then he leased it to tenants and went on a journey. When vintage time drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants to obtain his produce. But the tenants seized the servants and one they beat, another they killed, and a third they stoned.  Again he sent other servants, more numerous than the first ones, but they treated them in the same way. Finally, he sent his son to them, thinking, 'They will respect my son.' But when the tenants saw the son, they said to one another, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and acquire his inheritance.’ They seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What will the owner of the vineyard do to those tenants when he comes?" They answered him, "He will put those wretched men to a wretched death and lease his vineyard to other tenants who will give him the produce at the proper times." Jesus said to them, "Did you never read in the Scriptures: The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; by the Lord has this been done, and it is wonderful in our eyes? Therefore, I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that will produce its fruit."

HAPPENINGS IN OUR PARISH

A NOTE OF THANKS

Thank you, St. Cecilia Parish!  Do you know what you have accomplished in a single weekend?  By your generous and loving acts of giving, I am receiving a promising new cancer treatment.  You have answered our prayers!  What a remarkable expression of your faith!  Warren Hudgens, Sharon Murphy and family

GREETINGS FROM NIGERIA

I have arrived safely.  Thank you for your prayers.  Thank you for the wonderful time I had during my stay at St. Cecilia’s.  You took care of me.  I appreciate all of you.  How are Jim, Tarry, Jean, Dorthy, Shirley, Jim, Sr. Anna and others members of the staff?  My regards to all of them.  How is Fr. Carroll doing? Trying to adjust?  What of the parishioners?  I hope fine, my regards to everyone.  I just got back with lots of work on my desks, trying to put them in order.  I will be in touch.  Blessings, Fr. Godson

AUCTION ITEMS

Any items for the auction should not be left at the church.  Unmarked items may be discarded by mistake.  Arrangements for donation drop offs should be made through Dan & Deanna Greenwood (855-0693).

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS

There is still one of the crosses missing from the Sacristy.  If you have it please return it as soon as possible.  Please also remember to leave them in the Sacristy at the end of Mass.  Thank you.

HELP SUPPORT A PARISH IN NIGERIA

We have several items that we no longer use in our parish.  Rather than discarding them, we want to send them to Fr. Godson in Nigeria.  There are several parishes there that could use them.  They include Religious Ed books, bibles, and such.  The Knights of Columbus are having their Pancake Breakfast on October 9 and will be raising money to cover the cost of shipping the books to Fr. Godson.  Please stop by, enjoy some pancakes and donate some money to help educate children who are not as fortunate.

GOSPEL TRUTH FOR THE YOUTH

Has anyone ever been angry at you?  How did you feel?  Hurt?  Rejected?  This is what today’s gospel talks about.  When the owner, after his servants were beaten, sent his son to gather the produce, the people were angry and killed him.  The people rejected the owner’s son just like they would reject Jesus later on.  So what is the solution for anger and hatred?  It is understanding why people hate.  Then you pray for them, and finally you try to change their hatred into love through your own actions.

KITSAP COUNTY LIFE CHAIN: A PRO-LIFE VIGIL

On Sunday Oct. 2, 2005 between 2:00 and 3:15 p.m. many individuals from approximately 50 different churches and other religious organizations will line both sides of Wheaton Way in East Bremerton in a peaceful and prayerful demonstration of the their commitment to the sanctity of life for the unborn.  Each participant will be provided with a sign calling for the end of abortion and, in a quiet and respectful manner, will display that message to all on-coming motorists.  The location specifically designated for St. Cecilia’s participants will be on the west side of Wheaton Way at its intersection with Riddell Rd., easily recognizable by the Chevron station located there, and parking will not be a problem.  This is an annual event, but, regrettably, one in which our parish’s past contribution has been minimal.  LET’S CHANGE THAT THIS YEAR!  If you have a question call: Jack Gibney at 780-5307.

ADVICE FROM THE CHURCH MOUSE

“An act of Perfect Acceptance to the will of God unites us more to Him than a hundred other acts of virtue.”  -St. Alphonsus

ATTENTION CCD PARENTS

Parents of all CCD children, please remember that you have to pick your child up from his/her classroom at the end of class.  Children are not to be dismissed from their class until a parent is present.  (Also please remind your children to be on their best behavior as there is limited time for class.)

RCIA BEGINS TUESDAY OCTOBER 4, 2005

Are you interested in becoming Catholic or learning more about the Catholic faith?  Have you wondered how to go about joining the Catholic Church, or do you know someone who is interested in becoming Catholic?  The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults or RCIA is a process whereby adults and families are welcomed into the Catholic Church.  The RCIA consists of a series of weekly sessions devoted to preparing inquirers to be received fully into the Catholic Church at Easter.  If you wish to join us or have any questions, please call Sister Anna Nguyen, S.P. at the parish office, 842-3594 ext. 102.

SCCS BAKESALE TO SUPPORT STUDENTS OF LITTLE FLOWER SCHOOL IN MOBILE, ALABAMA

Little Flower School is taking in students from Louisiana who lost their homes to Hurricane Katrina.  SCCS has “adopted” Little Flower for this school year.  Our students will raise money to send to the school and write letters of support and friendship to their students.  The Principal of Little Flower wants to replace one special, personal item lost by each student affected by the hurricane.  She will send us the list of items that the children miss most and we will replace those items.  Please support the SCCS bake sale after 10:00 mass on October 16th by contributing baked goods and/or purchasing them on that day.  Help us make a difference in the lives of children who lost everything they owned during the hurricane. Baked goods can be dropped off in Conger Hall before the 10:00 mass on October 16th.Thank you for the support of this mission! For more information, please call Carol Jelinek: 780-0198 or Lynne Gallivan: 780-8161
