St. Cecilia's has been a long-standing supporter of
Boy and Girl Scouting programs. From 1953 until the late 1970's the
parish sponsored Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop 574. In 1998, se
sponsored newly formed Cub Scout Pack 4547 under the leadership of
Cubmaster/parishioner Rick Baker and the enthusiastic backing of Fr.
Donald Conger. From 1989-91 Pack 4547 was one of the largest in the Chief
Seattle Council, having over 80 boys and 30 registered adult leaders.
The
current Cubmaster is Greg Hepp (842-1721), the Committee Chair is
Stephnilee Libby (780-5939), and the Chartered Organization is Patrick
Vasicek (842-6971). Pack 4547 is one of four Cup Scout Packs on the
Island; the others are sponsored by American Post 172, Rollin Bay
Presbyterian Church, and the LDS Bainbridge Island Ward. Boy Scouts have
made significant contributions to the Parish. Among the most notable are
Eagle Projects that designed purchased, and installed the Church's
original computer system (Drew Kellogg); Rectory's backyard fence (Jimmy
Nagle), landscaping and deck (Kenyon Kellogg); Blessed Mother's grotto
and courtyard (Walter Warren); North parking lot (John Nagle); sign on
Madison Avenue (Jon Kellogg); landscaping in the main parking lot
(Patrick Raymond); and handicapped access ramp and trash dumpster
enclosure (Steve Nagle).
The parish has also historically been a strong
supporter of Girl Scouting, providing meeting places and resources as
necessary. For many years St. Cecilia's was a major supporter of the Girl
Scout Sunday anniversary celebrations held in March. For more information
on Girl Scouting, contact Nancy Russell (842-1730). For information about
Boy Scouts (boys, ages 11-17), call Bruce Anderson, Scoutmaster of Troop
1565 at 842-8416, For information on BSA's coed Venture Program, call
