Standing approximately 19 feet tall against the northwest wall of the
church, the organ case houses sixteen extended ranks of more than 1000
individual pipes, which range from over nine feet to less than 1 inch in
length. The casework of classic three-tower design is constructed of red
oak and has been stained to compliment the cedar and brick interior of
the church.
The detached two-manual console allows flexible placement to
accommodate the organ's dual role as an accompaniment and a recital
instrument.
The specifications, consisting of 27 speaking stops, is intended to
allow performance of the full repertoire of organ literature. In addition
to a full Principal chorus (8', 4', 2'), which is crowned by a three-rank
Mixture (Mixture III), the organ includes three independent flute voices
(Rorhflote, Gedeckt, Harmonic Flute), three string stops (Salicional,
Viola di Gamba, Voix Celeste), two mutations (Nazard, Tierce) and two
reeds (Trumpet, Vox Humana).
Facade pipes of the Principal 8' rank are constructed of burnished
copper in the three towers and of 70% tin in the "flats". The remaining
pipes, hidden from view, are made variously of wood, lead, and metal
alloy. The Swell division utilized 3-1/4" of wind pressure; the Great
utilizes 3".
A seismic retrofit was made to the case in
1996.
