The Bainbridge Island Inter-Faith Council (IFC) has been composed of
pastors and two lay representatives from each of eight Christian
(Trinitarian) faith communities on Bainbridge Island: Bethany Lutheran
Church, Eagle Harbor Congregational Church, Grace Episcopal Church, Port
Madison Lutheran Church, Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church, St. Barnabas
Episcopal Church, St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, and Seabold Methodist
Church. Additionally, observer status (nonvoting) has been granted to the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and to Helpline House (a
community charitable organization).
This year the Council decided to invite other Island faiths to
participate, thus broadening the scope of Ecumenical projects undertaken
or sponsored by the group. It's former name "Inter-Parish Council" was
changed to "Inter-Faith Council" to reflect the more inclusive character
of the organization.
Issues and activities taken up by IFC include Island social welfare
needs (food, housing, etc.), dignity and justice issues and promotion of
Christian ideals and practices. The IFC meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first
Thursday of each month with each member church hosting meetings on a
rotational basis.
Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church and St. Cecilia's alternate each year
in hosting an Inter-Faith Baccalaureate Service for the Bainbridge High
School Class graduating seniors. St. Cecilia's last hosted the class of
2002
IFC member pastors also meet each month for lunch to discuss issues of
mutual concern and for a bit of socialization and fellowship. Hosting
duties are on a rotational basis. St. Cecilia's representatives to the
IFC are Joe Rochelle and Len Beil.
